South Surrey teams win Zone 3 High School curling play downs

What a weekend of fun and curling!  January 19-21, Peace Arch Curling Centre hosted the Zone 3 high school curling zone play downs.

Congratulations to this year’s zone winners: Elgin Park (boys) and Earl Marriott 1 (girls). The girls representative wasn’t decided until the last rock of the last game on Sunday evening. “I am confident that these teams will represent our zone well at the provincials in March,” said Lindsae Miller, teacher, Clayton Heights Secondary. Kudos also to second place finishers: Delta 1 (boys) and Sands (girls).

Ms. Miller thanked Linda, Susan, John and the ice crew at Peace Arch curling club for supplying a great facility, and great ice for the event; Henry Wong for so willingly donating his time and efforts to officiate; and Marion, who’s wisdom and experience has been greatly appreciated throughout this whole processes. Finally, parents and coaches – thank you for all the time and effort you put in.

It was heartening to see so many students out this weekend involved in curling.  The enthusiasm of the kids, their parents, and coaches is important in keeping the sport of curling growing.
